The 5 best apps to choose what to eat with type 2 diabetes

Short answer

GoCoCo comes first on our six criteria, because it is the only one of the eight apps we looked at that lists all of them: built for diabetes, a barcode scan, a score on the product, a meal log, a glucose log and recipes. MyNetDiary and SNAQ go further on daily logging and connected devices, but list no score on the product. If you take insulin, read the note under the ranking.

We make GoCoCo, and we chose these criteria, so read this ranking knowing that. Facts about the other apps come from their own public pages, linked in the footer of this page, and were checked on 2026-11-06. We did not test the apps hands-on, and prices and features change.

How we ranked them

Choosing what to eat takes more than a log. So we looked at whether the app is built for diabetes, scans food, rates the product, logs meals and glucose, and offers recipes or meal plans. This ranking is about food: it does not rate insulin tools or medical devices.

Each criterion is worth 1 point, or half a point when it is partial or paid. Not listed means we did not find it on the app's public pages, not that it does not exist. Ties go to the app with more App Store ratings in the US.

We could not read the US App Store pages of Heka AI and NutriT2 on the day we checked, so they are not ranked.

If you take insulin or need a regulated logbook, this ranking is not the right test. mySugr is a certified medical device with a bolus calculator in selected countries. GoCoCo is not a medical device and is not designed around insulin dosing.

1. GoCoCo: 6 / 6

Best for: Choosing products with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, then tracking meals and glucose in the same app.

Limit: The free plan stops at 5 scans a week. It is not designed around insulin dosing, and it is not a medical device.

2. MyNetDiary Diabetes Tracker: 5 / 6

Best for: A full daily log of glucose, carbs, meals and medication.

Limit: No product score or alert is listed, and its recipes are a Premium feature.

3. SNAQ: 5 / 6

Best for: Seeing meals on your glucose curve if you use a sensor or a connected meter.

Limit: It lists no product score or alert, and it imports glucose from a device rather than measuring it.

4. Carb Manager: 4.5 / 6

Best for: Counting net carbs every day on a low-carb or keto diet.

Limit: No product score or alert is listed, and its diabetes tracker is on the Premium list.

Questions

What people ask

What is the best food app for type 2 diabetes?

On our six criteria, GoCoCo. MyNetDiary is a strong choice for a full daily log, and SNAQ if you want meals on your glucose curve with a sensor or a connected meter.

Why is mySugr not in the top 5?

Because this ranking is about choosing food, and mySugr lists no food scanner or product score. It does another job: a certified logbook with insulin tools. The two can sit side by side.

Do these apps replace my healthcare team?

No. Your targets, your medication and any change in your treatment belong with your healthcare team.
